If our government is acting contrary to our interests, it has to be the biggest conspiratorial failure in history, because it has resulted in the most powerful country with the most powerful economy in the world. It's almost as absurd as the supposed medical conspiracy against women, the net outcome of which seems to be giving women the curse of seven extra years of life (at the turn of the prior century, all medicine could do was give women an average lifespan about as long as that of men).

Like I asked elsewhere, if there is this big conspiracy, who is benefitting from it and how? And if they have all this money, where are they spending it? On the Moon?
