I just found out about this MIRC a few days ago, yaeh I know it's been there for a decade, and got a bunch of download offer from strangers on pretty much every room I went to. I wonder if they were trying to infect my clean computer!
Is MIRC a virus/spyware trap or what?

since mirc exists there are these viruses spammers
just set your DCC settings to accept certian filetypes (mp3, avi, mpg, whatever) and you'll stay protected

thanks for the info. I'm not really interested in downloading anything from there but I'd sure like to start my own chat room or network. How do one go about doing this?Originally posted by zvik

Mirc is one of the biggest peices of shit out there.
XChat is awesome. You can be on multiple servers in the same window, flood proof, and none of these viruses or shit. Use it, and you'll love it.
Oh, and it's free.Comment

Unfortunately, if you use DCC chat frequently, you'll find that certain features are only supported in mIRC (such as accessing fserves behind firewalls).Originally posted by quantum-x

Best all around option is to turn DCC OFF completely, and only turn it on when requested to by some one you know.
My irc room is on free.kewlchat.net #hammertime_forums
Ohh and if your interested in hosting your own irc server you can do so easily on linux or windows with unrealircd. the linux version has more features and is alot more secure. I am in the process of setting my own up. learning linux is the hard part not irc.Last edited by HammerTime33; 09-15-2004, 09:04 AM.Comment

mIRC is awesome. Instead of downloading it off a stranger, go to their homepage to download it: http://www.mirc.com/
Turn off DCC (as others recommended)..you can chat just fine without having it on. Just keep playing with the program and you will get the hang of it.
As for your own chat server...that gets more complicated...
Easy way: Create a room on an established server.
Hard way: Owning and running your own server.
I would start out with your own room to begin with...then work up from there.Comment
