My views on giving to charities..............

KARMA. I see lots of people are getting into the spirit of giving because of the recent hurricane. Giving to charities is just a good business investment. It's tax deductable and more importantly you WILL get back your investment at least twice fold. Why do you think that 75% of the money raised by charities is from cooperate donations? After you send a few bucks to the red cross this month to help out the victims of the hurricane, think ahead to next month. Find a charity you strongly believe in and give to them every month. If nothing else the act of helping out others MAY negate some of the bad things you have done in your life.

    Enough of the dribble. LOL

It's also nice to give it to people directly. We have fellow people in this biz that need things and it's not tax deductible to help them out. But I'd rather do that than give an organization $100 and have $20 of that actually go to those who need it

But donate any way you can - we also have a page set up http://www.webmasters4america.com where we are matching funds

It's not the amount you give , it's just the fact that you do something to make someones fucked up life a little better.

same here. sometimes i buy magazines for charities, or i donate clothes to Goodwill, or I buy from Goodwill (knowing they hire the less-fortunate & give them jobs!), im always giving & helping causes/charities.

Great idea but I wished you had a way to be counted if you gave directly to the red cross. My accountant has spanked me before for things like this, in case of a audit he said I need to show the charge from the charity directly on my cc or check, not a third party.

Donating money and stuff is not so common here in Denmark since no one really needs it.
Only giving to Red Cross and other organizations helping internationally is the norm.
But a couple of years ago I spend a couple of hundred on a kid in the christmas thing pattycake is involved with and it was a good feeling knowing this kid got what he wanted for Christmas and I like it since then I try to help when I can.
I am helping a girl in Nepal it costs me $25 a month and that ensures she gets schooling, food and medical help.

Apparently you CAN get a receipt for a deduction from Epassporte if it's over $250. I'm getting this info 3rd hand so don't shoot the messenger if I'm wrong

It's a good investment because you or someone you care about will need help someday; it's a good investment because jobless, homeless people don't contribute to a healthy economy.

But don't do it because it's an investment. Do it because it needs to be done.

I give to charities and ever since I was a teenager I have done regular voluntary work for charities. But - emergency responses apart - I support only charities which spend at least a large part of their money raising public awareness of the issues with which they are involved.

On the face of it, charities which dedicate their funds to helping people directly may seem preferable. But they are rarely able to tackle problems fully and I believe they often serve to diminish problems, keeping them out of the public eye and thus making proper solutions less likely.

Every ACH donation will receive a receipt; regardless the amount. We are emailing a confirmation and will also be sending one via snail mail once the site is taken down.

Charity without asking for somethign inreturn is the most noble thing.
