As a black man who was born in New Orleans I can honestly only say this. The media can only get what you give them, NO EXCUSES. These people were a minority that unfortunately always spoke louder and got more attention than the majority of people in New Orleans, even worst now is that they are the majority of people left in the city out in the open, blatantly showing off the fact that they are running things.

The fact that some are using this as an opprotunity to loot, not survive but loot shows the lack of being in touch with reality. They lack the intelligence to know that there will not be a return to normalicy anytime this year. At times of great stress the carnality of man is shown, this is in any race of man black, white or otherwise, now you see it. Water and juices were long since depleted from the stores by those with money enough to buy it, alchahol in non college areas was prevelant as most did not buy it, this explains the large amounts of alchahol you see being taken as well as the obvious lifestyle of the poor on average. The clothing you see being taken does have its survival role, being in wet ecoli covered clothing is a major health risk and there is no power or water pressure to run washing machines, changes of clothers are a necessity but I agree getting closer to the line. Battery operated electronics are likewise a need, large televisions on the otherhand we all know is opertunistic bullshit.

A person who had the mentality of one who will prey upon the weaker or one who will take advantage of a situation is based upon socio economics which of course run a thin line with race. New Orleans has always been a place of self indulgent carnality, this is why Mardi Gras or Carnival base word being carni or carnal has been popular. With great power comes great responsibility and there will be people clammoring for leadership power much like some post appocalyptic movie

Those that were left in the city, mostly those living in governmental housing or projects have nothing to lose at this point, they are now the majority and in power, their agenda will be carried out, they are now unchecked by western society, plain and simple.
