No I'm not. You simply didn't read my post properly. I stated clearly in it that I thought two different subjects (although obviously related) were being discussed and the guy was an idiot who should have paid the bill. I have no idea if his service was good or bad.

Those comments were directed at the subject of tipping generally and not that particular case.

Oh and...100 people to tight to leave a tip.

No, cheap people that stiff waiters and waitresses on tips should be shot.

I'll admit that if a tip is MANDATORY it should be included on the bill - although, in every situation I have been in where it was, it has been.

But people that don't tip at all are a different story altogether. I always leave 15% if the service is adequate - 20% if I feel the service went above and beyond what was required. But if the service is acceptable and someone doesnt tip, I have a fucking tip for them - dont fucking eat out on the first place. I've never worked as a waiter, but people that stiff on the tip is still one of my pet peeves.

THank you , I have worked for tips and the number of times you get stiffed is amazing. You bust your ass for a party and then they stiff you on the tip. If they serve the food and seem aware I am there they get 15% ,they dont have to be my friend. If I get really good service then I tip 20-25% and then when I go to that restaurant they treat me like the owner because sadly as seen in some of these posts people suck by nature. I rarely get bad service because I treat the server as a person not my personal servant, so unless the kitchen screws up the service is fine.

Depends 100% where you eat. It's very rare that I never tip but sometimes service really is the bad and yes - I always treat any waiter/waitress with respect. Eat at enough different places and you do find assholes who really shouldn't be doing that job just as you find assholes who won't tip good service.

But then tipping is looked upon very differently here. Unfortunately it's often the norm here not to tip which I've always found odd because a small tip for good service harms nobody. But then as I said ealier waiting staff here also get much better pay for the most part.
        Ignorance is never bliss.

If the tip is mandatory ( very common ) then its not even a question..

They guy didn't pay his bill he should be arrested for theft..

Waitress's PAY tax on wage + 15% tips , whether they get tips or not..

So if no customer tips , and the waitress made many sales , she may actually have to pay her employer to work.. ( this is not uncommon either )

Stores often post prices for items without tax , its the same thing..

You cant walk into mcdonalds and expect a 99cent burger for 99 cents.. and if you ate it before you paid for it you would be arrested as well.

How can a tip be mandatory? A tip is a tip because it's optional. Otherwise it's called a bill or a tax.

How cool would it be to open a restaurant and charge all you people a fine printed 20% "cooking charge", a 20% "eat in charge", and a "5% payment processing fee"?

                But it's on the menu...

And then tack on an ambiance charge onto that?

Don't pay it? Call the police and have you arrested, fingerprinted, and charged.

I was just in Lake George a few days ago and I remember seeing that place. If memory serves me correctly, it was a "hole in the wall".

I tip exactly 15% if the service is good. I deduct for any attitude the waiter/waitress gives me.

I worked in restaurants when I was in college and most people don't realize how much waiters and waitresses make. They can make more than most pople who work office jobs! So don't over tip. These people don't deservie to make that much money for just taking orders and delivering food.

I don't believe any sort of tipping should be expected.
If you want to give someone a little extra for being nice and doing a good job then fine, but paying extra to be served at a restaurant is stupid. You pay for the food, service and whatever else. Ugh -_-'

If it was common practice to arrest non-tippers, 99% of Canadians would be in jail.....

I'm a very generous tipper, but very picky as well....if I didn't enjoy the meal or had problems, I'll bring it to a manager's attention and explain the problem. If the service was still good despite problems (ie, the waitress came by and said 'sorry, we're having issues, your meals being delayed") I'll leave a tip because it was beyond her control.

If the waitress is just terrible and unpersonable, the tip goes down...way down...

I wonder how many of you cheapskate non-tipping bastards fail to tip your lapdancer if the dance was bad?

Considering where Lake George is... non-tipping Canadians might be just the reason for that policy

As has been seen from this thread, 'tipping' customs vary greatly from country to country. So, when you travel, just follow the local custom.

And then bitch on a message board once you get home.

people who dont leave tips are a fucking disgrace. Cheap ass fuckers who would rather keep there 3$ for a pack of cig's or to rent a porn, rather then pay a server what they are deserved. If you haveing been a server and bitch about tipping, fucking try it one time. Im sure you will change your tone. I wait tables for 3 hours a day 3 days a week on the side for gas, cigs and beer. Its a good job and if its done right can produce good money. Sure some times u get stiffed on tips, but u move on and kiss more ass on the next table. Im glad this fuck bag got arrested and i hope he gets jail time. Even if the service is shitty, still at least pay the bill in full or leave some change. There tryin to earn there living.

should shitty servers be paid the same as expirenced servers? THey shouldnt. Thats why the tipping system was invented. The smart and hard working people should be rewarded. The stupid lazy fucks on welfare for 20 years should be shot. Bottom line: The harder a server works the more money they should make. Same thing goes for stippers. The better they dance and look the more money they should make. If it was the employers job to pay the servers they would all act the same, they would have no reason to strive to reach a better standard. Hence tipping, it gives them a reason to be extra nice to the guests, so they have a better stay, so they come back and tell there friends. Its a big cycle. Say what you will about it, but its the best way to insure your servers make the guests happy.

See ladies and gentlemen, what wesbob2k4 just did is called a "flip flop".

His first post is that all waiters need to get paid. Then in his second post only minutes later, he says that everyone needs to get paid based on the quality of their work.

"Bottom line: The harder a server works the more money they should make" - this quote is defending the customer in the case. He possibly thought that this server did not deserve 18%, so he did not pay it.

                                                Very reasonable.
Host it in AMSTERDAM at EUROTIVITY! - We also offer BACKUP SERVICES!

I thought this was common sense. As I mentioned earlier, there is no such thing as a Mandatory Tip. If it's a mandatory charge it's called a bill or a tax. Thank goodness the law really does work sometimes. This "tip" was a charge and not a tip. They need to state this CHARGE instead of using the "tip" bs to get extra money for nothing.

It's an underhanded unprofessional way of doing business.

If I like the food and service I'd definitel leave tips but sometimes both are sux...why should I pay 4 that extra money????
