Thanks macho!

dready and hotorange,

I understand both your opinions, that's why I have created hostingspeeds.com in such a way it tackles these problems.

Overall speed rank is based on 3 speed tests - 1) ping speed, 2) 100kb page load test and 3) 100kb LAN page load test within the network of the hosting company.

All ranks are based on average results.

To get a fair average for every host, we have based hostingspeeds.com on working with a world wide network of webmasters testing their own host by letting their site visitors (who come from all over the world) perform the speed checks.

The local connection speed of these visitors surely influences the page load speed result. But this affects all hosts in the database, so the ranking will stay the same.

For every host an unlimited number of clients can sign up, to get a fair average of the hosting data center speed of that host.

Regarding the ping speed, you are right it takes a longer ping time if your host is outside the USA, so your host can never make it to the top ranking, unless they have a very good page load and LAN load test average.

That is why we have added short cuts to hosts by country and allow our visitors to easily sort the ranking by page load speed results and LAN speed results.

We currently just mention that pings are performed from our dedicated server in Green Bay, USA, but we will add an extra explanation about long ping speeds in other continents than USA. You got a very good point there.

More suggestions for hostingspeeds.com are very welcome!
