lan or wlan

what is disconnecting.. a wireless device or an actual device plugged into one oft he ports of the router. Make sure all pc's are running auto/ or 10mb/s full duplex. 100mb/s full duplex won't usually encapsulate right with the wifi and the res tof it .. you can set it that way on the pc copper connection and it appears right, but there often ends up to be intermitten disruptions as you explain. this is for lan not wireless cards.. cat5 patching to the router from a static desktop for example

so.. is it wireless that does that? you might have another router close to you that your system grabs and is unable to use. but its disrupting by attempting to jump
"non preferred network"

check your advanced settings on your wireless card on the pc thats wirelessly connecting.
make sure to remove any other wlan's you may have saved in the properties window from previous connections. remove all but what you wanna connect to.
hope that helps
