By struggle do you mean fuck it up and make things worse? I'm sure they can compete, Russia can be pretty damn incompetent sometimes. Although if Bush stays in power it's going to be a horse race. -

First of all the USA fight against those who disturbs the policy of the USA, not the world terrorists.
Russia is trying to show that they are in the same team with the USA. But actually do nothing strong to solve a local conflict, becourse it is very profitable. A lot of money from government and contributions from west countries won't get the people they were intended to.
So the answer is:

I believe that the conflicts with Chechens can be solved in peacfull methods... all they want is freedom under protection of european contries and another president.
We can blame terrorists in the horrible actions they do but no one can blame the whole nation. It concerns not only the Chechens.
And the last thing - terrorism would never survivve without huge susms of money so we have to blame those peolpe (politicians) who engage these acts.Comment

Either way, both Russia and the US are now facing the concequences of strategic decisions they made in the past, specifically during the Cold War. Hopefully some lessons will be learned in reguard to dealing with religious extremists.Comment
