    Online pharmacist jailed

    A Florida man is facing 33 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute a controlled substance.

    Vineet Chhabra ran a series of websites offering Viagra, diet pills and other controlled drugs. Customers had to fill in online questionaires or complete a telephone interview but did not need to see a doctor or submit a prescription, as required under US law. His sister Sabina Faruqui also pleaded guilty and faces one-year probation. Five others, including a doctor and a pharmacist have already pleaded guilty. In total, 11 have been charged as a result of the three-year investigation.

              Thats the difference between white collar crimes and blue collar crimes. This guy may get 33 months and he made 125mill illegally, while my friend got caught driving a stolen car and het got 3 years

                          Chhabra will be back in court for sentencing on 3 December. Prosecutors claim he has made $125m from running the sites - money he may have to forfeit or pay in fines. According to wire reports, he may also lose 15 luxury vehicles, including six Mercs, 72 pieces of jewelery, the contents of 60 bank accounts scattered around the world and property, including a $2m office building in Weston, Florida.

                                                  From my understanding of the law when I was doing the market research & I believe it's the way the Canadian Online Pharmacies operate - it's illegal to make a prescription drug available to a patient without having his prescription on hand.

                                                  This guy got caught because he was:
                                                  1) using an online questionnaire to replace his doctor's advice
                                                  2) not insisting on a prescription
                                                  3) not verifying by phone with his doctor
                                                  4) being situated within the US does also make it more difficult

                                                          Just to clarify the top part of my other post since I took too long to edit it:


                                                          From my understanding of the law when I was doing the market research (I believe it's the way the Canadian Online Pharmacies still operate) it's illegal to make a prescription drug available to a patient without having his prescription on hand & verifying it with his doctor. For Canadian online pharmacies - the prescription has to be sent by the doctor (fax or mail) to the online pharmacy along with medical history for drug interraction purposes. The doctor here has to issue a Canadian prescription & then the pharmacist here verifies that there are no drug interractions. Also, the pharmacist cannot replace the drug with a generic unless the US doctor has authorized it & the generic is FDA approved.

                                                              Yet another reason to legalize all drugs. It's hard to believe that in the 21st century, in a so-called free society, we still prosecute (and persecute) people for selling or ingesting certain substances.

                                                                                                  Its not on the controlled substance list but beinf that it is a legacy drug, it is illegal to sell without perscription. So is it controlled or not? Depends on how you look at it.
