Back when I was in my late teens, my dad's union went on strike. He worked a highly technical job at the CBC both in master control and out on a mobile camera crew. They were out on strike for 5 months back then...... I don't know too many people even here that could go 5 months will almost no income. The man sucked it up though and went out and got himself a job as a courier. Not a prestigious career by any stretch, but an honest one, and for five months he drove a little Datsun car all over the city and was damned good at it, and he supported his family like a fucking man.
I never forgot examples like that in my life, for it is those examples that have helped instill in me the notion that where there is a will there is a way, and also that real men do what it takes to keep going. I no longer have to worry about pumping gas or flipping burgers, but if the interweb ever collapses and it comes to that, I would again do what it takes.
