One thing that boggles me though, why don't Canadians tip when they dine out? One of those unsolved mysteries of the universe I guess.

What a load of crap..I always give my bartender atleast 5 bucks per drink and at a restaurant 20 bucks .Maybe the elderly couldn't afford to

i think thats an Ontario thing....pretty much the rest of the country tips well

I was in Ontario last week and the Canadians I was dining with tipped $25.00 on a bill that was about $100.00. Most Americans I know do not tip 25%.

I went to College in Miami and worked in a high traffic tourist area in Ft. Lauderdale as a waiter/bartender. During season it was a running joke that Canadians didn't tip. It is probably the age thing because young Canadians always did tip pretty well.

Haven't you ever heard the joke, "What's the difference between a Canadian and a canoe?" - A canoe tips.

Actually most Canadians do tip, and tip above 15%. A friend of mine worked in cuba at an all inclusive resort - she said that americans were the poor tippers. They assumed because it was all inclusive, tips were not necessary.

What most people don't realize is that waiters/bartenders in Florida only get paid $2.13 an hour (it might be a little more now, that was the price when I was in the service industry).

I tip 15% whenever I go out. Keep in mind though that most people up here earn at least minimum wage while working in restaurants, tips are just gravy.

Edit: I tip MINIMUM 15%. If someone goes above and beyond, so do my tips.
