American traitor Lindh pleads guilty

I just saw in breaking news, that the Fuckstain Johnny Walker Lindh, the "American Taliban" plead guilty to 2 lesser crimes and will do about 20 years in prison.

What do you guys think? Justice or not? Personally I don't think it's enough. People get 20 years for stupid pissant stuff over here, he committed treason and conspired to and in fact probably did murder americans and gets 20. Oh well it is a pretty long time though. Hey Walker Lindh, heres to you

I agree it is a long time. I think the point of it though, is to hopefully deter others from doing the same thing in the future.

Dude, there no deterrent for moving to Afghanistran and joining the taliban. If thats what you feel you need to do, then nothing will stop you. Afghanistan is far worse than prison or death.

Yeah i agree with you, but he knew the US law and he could change citizenship (right?) and therefore not be able to get charged as a traitor.

I don't usually find myself in agreement with Gary, but I have got to admit - there isn't really much that a prison sentence is going to do to deter people that want to fight in this manner.

Gee 20 years, I am going - now if he had gotten life - well then I should not.

Fact is - this guy was a nobody. If it wasn't for the fact he was American - nobody would know or care who he was.

If you TRULY believe your god is supporting what you are doing - then why would anything deter you?

I have yet to see a shred of evidence indicating thats what he actually did or intended to do. I think his Lawyers were silly for copping a plea, because unless the gov't has some evidence its been withholding, they should have been able to get him off on the conspiracy stuff.

Bottom line: If the gov't had the evidence to support those charges they would not have accepted a plea offer.

Lindh's lawyers probably plead it down because they thought it would be almost impossible to find an unpredjudiced jury in light of the fact that champions of "justice" like Assooooo covicted him in the press before he even arrived in the US. And again, I think they did it intentionally because they knew even then that they did not have evidence to convict him of the most serious charges before an unbiased jury.

There is no question he went to Afghanistan and joined the Taliban, but there aren't much in the way of laws to punish misguided teenagers who run off to fight with fundamentalist Islamic regimes. The most serious charge is conspiracy to kill americans, and it is that which I don't think they have any real evidence for.

Lindh joined the Taliban as a foot soldier long before the United States came into conflict with them, and it is far from clear that he was willing to conspire with them to commit murder against US military personell after the conflict began.

Conspiracy to commit murder is extrordinarily difficult to prove unless someone is caught in the act or a person credible enough to convince a Jury flips and becomes a Gov't witness. They don't either in this case.

Seriously though, the argumant that it prison won't deter is weak in my opinion. Maybe there should be no punishments for any crimes at all. Obviously it isn't working since people are still going to prison, right?

I don't see the difference. Maybe it won't deter MOST terrorist assholes, but that doesn't mean it still shouldn't be illegal. If laws against murder never deter a single murder, it should STILL be illegal.

In my not so humble opinion

By the way, on top of the 20 years, I think the nutcase should have to do his time with a pig in his jail cell. A nice live pig.

This guy was branded a traitor before anyone knew anything, simply because of his associations, which were NOT America's enemies when he joined them. He had NO plans to kill Americans.. The 9/11 deal changed things over there and he was caught up in it.
Did he conspire to kill Americans? NO PROOF.. His association proves nothing because he was there before there was an enemy.. He was there fighting AGAINST our enemy, the Northern Alliance.
All of a sudden the U.S. changes enemies and now he's a traitor.. simply for that reason and no other.. If you or anyone else can prove otherwise, which hasn't been done by anyone, then bring on the proof.. Otherwise you have no qualifications for slamming people who don't agree with this 'traitor' stuff.
Don't be so convinced that cnn is a knower of all truth.. Afterall.. they, among most other big news networks said "GORE WINS" because, again, they jumped the gun before they really knew...

Non of the original counts against him were that of being charged as a traitor. The two counts that he entered a guilty plea are not those of being a traitor.

You brought up a great example of how someone can become something out of nowhere...

In 1998 the govt adopted a new definition of 'obese', and because the govt changed the guidelines, millions more people are all of a sudden obese.

Just as the govt changed enemies and now there's a traitor.
