It means your rendering in wmv.
It will make 2 passes

I render in avi then convert later.

So I am guessing then there is no way to stop it from doing that if I want to save in wmv... tiz cool I am a patient guy

you can make it stop. there is a setting which allows you to do it in one pass.

you wont lose that much quality, I use 1pass encoding

It's an option on the adobe media exporter dialog
