    Applying for a patent.

Ok, I've been searching for hours and can't seem to find out the info I need. I have developed a new product and wish to patent it. I just can't find out where I need to go in order to get this done.

The U.S. Patent office has me running around in circles. I was going to use that Inventors Helpline.

It's a great idea and will make me tons of money if marketed correctly.

          Hey,

Having gone through the patent process before its a pain in the ass and your only hope is to consult a patent lawyer or patent firm. You can try and file it yourself but overall it will takelonger and be much harder. Once you havea prototype designed all you have to do is get an official patent search done, once you see similar inventions out there you must compare and contrast your idea to theirs and make sures your imporiving upon or providing a new product in order to have your patent granted. Be weary of patent lawyers though, i Had to go through a few before I found a good one.

I've looked into it as well. i learned it costs like $4-500 just to have a patent attorney look through the patent directory to determine if you are able to move forward. Then, depending on the type of patent, it will cost you anywhere from $1500-$5000 to obtain the patent. If you believe in your idea, I'd pay the $400 or so to have an attorney look through the directory. That directory might as well be written in german as far as I'm concerned. Best of luck!!

it will cost between 5 and 10k for the whole process if done properly and efficiently by use of lawyers or patent firms.

I don't know, but I heard on an infomercial last night

"So powerful it was issued a patent by the United States Patent Office!".

Made me laugh to think people will actually be impressed by that.
