If you got the extra $$ get an intel.. I was always all for AMD... but a top of the line P4 kicks ass. Just make sure u dont get a celeron, suck for photoshop etc.
AMD if you are a bastard tweaker as for like over clocking etc, if you dont plan on over clocking and doing mods then intel all the fucking way, alot of people dont like intel cpu's but i have never had a problem with them, they are worth the extra money in my opinion..
it's like asking which color is better, red or blue. Each have their advanatges and the new AMD production run spanks the hell out of the pentium chips but are still prone to heat.
Personally I'm sick of my computer causing heatwaves in my room so I'm going dual core pentium next time around.
Ok, so a cooling issue is ther.hmm. Will try to keep that in mind, as where we live there is no ac. We dont really need it, because it does not get above 85, but that would be just enough.
that is the same processor i have in my main computer, it's fucking amazing. i'ev never compared the intels to it side by side though. i had heard that intels are a bit better for things like servers that need to run constantly, but for a home machine the AMD 64 does everything i need it to.

I have 5 boxes with AMD 64 3200 . no problem.
I know that Asspimple is stoopid ... As he says, it is a FACT !
But I can't figure out how he can breathe or type , at the same time ....
i just updated my home system to Asus A8n SLI mb running nforce4 chipset.. with a nvidia 7800 video card.. the AMD chip i have is a amd 64 4000 San Diego chip which if have good fans you can Overclock pretty well
At the moment, AMD is kicking Intel's ass all over the place in everything, there's no comparison (where as, 1-2 years ago Intel was ahead of the game).
AMD 64 dual core processors are fucking awesome. But to be honest, even though AMD is superior, you can't go wrong either way. Just make sure you get the line with 1MB of cache on the processor (IE, don't buy the "budget line", like Celeron) or it will cripple you.
That's one of those, "you really need to ask?!" kinda questions. AMD smokes Intel chips pretty much across the board. There are some exceptions, like the lower cost (but lower powered) dual core chips Intel came out with are great for most people but the expensive AMD dual core chips are more powerful AND they are faster for "single core" applications which is pretty much everything out there.
Pentium chips consume more power and run hotter than AMD chips which are far more efficient. Except for Pentium M chips which are intended for laptops and there's not much in terms of boards out there to support them for desktop useage just yet. The Pentium Ms are better processors than P4s with great speed at lower wattages and far less heat output. It'll be nice to see them used more in desktops.
Intel's biggest advantage is offering huge discounts to sellers like Dell for using their entire line of chips exclusively - not creating superior chips.
