I never told folks to stay away from GFY, in fact at some point in there I mentioned it was a fun place and a great place to do business. BUT it is not the best place to go and ask for a site review, learn the ropes on setting up domains and hosting, learn html or any of the other stuff that I see newbies trying to do here all the time. I say this because I see the responses that newbies get on the threads. I say this because I see the scams being perpetuated.
I don't work for Voltar, never have. I have no vested interest there, I am a member, period. The same as here. If you check, you will see that I post over there maybe once a week or so to say hi. So as far as stealing traffic for some perceived gain, I'm not.All cookies cleared!Comment

This board is the best place to start for business.
The most people post here, its filled with people looking to make new business contacts.
Any dumbass too that gets wrapped up in the drama here and does not get anywhere in this industry is just that, a dumbass.

Never understood why some people make such an effort to help stupid people who can't help themselves. There is a plethora of info out there on webmaster stuff. All one has to do is go to any major search engine and start there.
Why not just leave the newbies here for fish food, instead of trying to get them to sign up under your ref codes in hopes they might actually succeed and make you beer money.

VNWR, Tom's and Cozy have all been mentioned many times on this board by many different people, usually in response to a request by a newbie. I have yet to see one of those threads shut down or any PUBLIC mention by a mod to not do it.
FACT: before a noob comes posting here or any of the other big boards I mentioned (don't want to be spamming here, ya know) They should go to a newbie board and learn the ropes.
FACT: A newbie does not always have the information required to know where to look for information, they don't know necesarilly what they are searching for. For you to assume that everyone out there knows what to look for to get started in this biz is "assumption of prior knowledge", something that should never happen when dealing with noobs (at least if you are actually trying to help them in anyway)
I did not make my post because I am wanting to help all the newbies out there or wanting to promote a specific board in any manner. I have done more than my my share of helping folks get started on the web, I am pretty much done with that for now. I made the post because I hate seeing people get hurt and I am tired of going into threads where I see it happening, so I have stopped doing that too. Therefore I made one post that in the future, if I need to, I can link to here on the board instead of having to repeat shit I have said in the past. The bottom line is you wouldn't go to ARS's board and tell people that ARS isn't the best place for your traffic, you should send it to Topbucks.
You wouldn't go to Jupiter Hosting's support forum and tell people that Jupiter isn't the best place to host your server, you should be at Phatservers.
And you shouldn't come to a webmaster board and tell people that this isn't the place for them, that another board is better.
If you can't see that then you definitely need a newbie board.
Also, on a side note, you didnt' just mention it....you started a thread and wrote a book about it.

This is probably the best board for making contacts, agreed, if not, it is one of the top three. And once someone knows what they are doing or at least has a clue as to what this biz is about, they should definitely be checking in here on a regular basis.

And that is what the newbie boards out there are for. To assume that someone can't make it as a webmaster because they don't know html yet is arrogance pure and simple.
Most of the folks around here were raised with computers. They had them in nursery school through college. Unfortunately, there are a great many folks who are older and didn't have the advantage of the technology that the younger set was raised with. So, there are people who have marketing backgrounds, sales backgrounds, design backgrounds but do not know their way around websites and servers and so forth. Should these folks just be left out ? Don't they have the same right to get in on the internet goldmine that the rest of us do ? Might they not have a great new idea that someone else around here hasn't thought of but don't yet have the technical skills to pull it off ?All cookies cleared!Comment

She worked for the phone company for years, she has her shit together! She deserves a piece of the pie too. Then we can proceed to invite everyone who has ever had any business related job in their life, so they can apply those skills to the adult webmaster industry and make a million bucks too.

Cherry, did you know html when you were born ? Or did you learn it along the way someohow ? Did you just get all your info by osmosis ? Where did it come from ? Somewhere along the way someone turned you on to the fact that there was an internet and that it was available to ANYONE. and you took advantage of that.
Then you want to claim it as your exclusive place, or at least exclusive to the point of folks knowing what they are doing and everyone else can go back to McDonalds.
The average age at the newbie boards is way higher than the average age here by a long shot and that is why I used that as an example.
If someone wants to learn html (or typing or how to use a mouse) someof us will be there to teach them.
