It's unlikely you're going to find any dental insurance that will cover something that's pre-existing.
IME, it's impossible to find REAL dental insurance unless you work for a big corporation and even then, the plans have suffered over the years.
What's out there are discount rates. You have to go to their dentists and most of the time those dentists will also find something else "wrong" with you so when you buy even more unneeded services at a discount, they can recoup their "losses".
When I had personal dental insurance, I never got to see the same dentist twice. Mostly because they were leaving and going to actual practices. And the insurance dentist told me 10 years ago I needed a crown replaced. I still haven't replaced it and it's fine.
My advice: Find a GOOD dentist who you trust, explain your financial situation, ask for a discount and/or payment plan
Depends on what dental work you need. You can get a flight to Thailand for $600-1200. Then go to a dentist. That's what I did. A cleaning, checkup, 4 fillings cost me $40 total. The dentist graduated from Hong Kong and had a real practice and office just like they do in the US.

But your fucked if you need a root canal, or crown, or preventative wax junk for deep grooves in your teeth. Or braces or cosmetic whitening. Go to Thailand, that's my advice. It's worth it.

It makes for a nice vacation at the same time which is affordable. I plan on going back for a crown, and maybe get the metal fillings replaces with white color fillings.

I wouldn't go to Thailand for any kind of major procedure. If they botch you up, what can you do legally? If an American surgeon botches up an operation, I can sue from now to eternity, and complain to a hundred different places. In Thailand, my guess is that you're fucked.

I see your point, but some of the dentist in Thailand that I looked up have degrees from American and European universities (or so they say). It seems worth it to me if enough research is done first. Plus, looks like a nice place to vacation

Or you can go to Colombia, Argentina, or any South American countries, get the best dentist in the country and have all of that done for about $100. Your ticket will cost you about $500.
My Ex-husband SKULL-BUITRE ran off to Colombia with OUR money and screwed me after I helped him build OUR business.
He is hiding in Colombia and never paid the settlement $ from our divorce!

A fast fortune is easy to earn! Just go with a winner!
Besides high quality dentists, Bangkok also has one of the best medical facilities where you can book your surgery online, get vacation package deals, and choose any doctor you want. All for an affordable price. I don't remember the URL right now though, but the hospital building looks bad ass and hi-tech (I drove by it).
