I think it's fairly easy to replicate a site like this one at way lower costs (and with better features/scripts):

    Comus Thumbs - $195
    TM3 - $395
    Design - ~$200
    100k feeder traffic - ~$800

That adds up to ~$1600, and is enough for anyone who can keep a site at 100k/day to get a site at 100k/day.

That being said, ANYONE can tweak sales pitches and experiment with traffic until it converts well. A lot fewer know how to generate traffic. Traffic is a comodity and a site with traffic should be treated as such. Again, those who know how to convert traffic should have no problem making back the price within a couple of months.
So you'd buy a new site with no indication of current income from an unknown person?
Could I interest you in becoming the new owner of a really nice bridge?

Also, we still have the very real risk of traffic suddenly dying.

If it's so easy, then why aren't you doing it?

I'm happy that I'm helping you increase your postcount, but please refrain from making comments like that, unless you intend to actually back them up with hard evidence. Otherwise you'll just look like a pre-drivers ed scholar who's gonna bump into the very next tree the first time he sits down behind the wheel.

I grow sites like this for people and I've got A LOT of work. The ones who look for deals like this are interested in them because they either don't have time to build traffic or don't have the knowledge for it. And in the long run, the alternative cost for the time required to grow a site might just be higher than buying a ready one.

Yeah, well, you might wanna start sleeping on the carpet, most people die in bed, so the risk for that is high.

So the current income level is unknown but you do know you can get an ROI after two months?

Is the site fed or not?

How much traffic is fed to the site

How much $ is spent on feeding the site (month)

Can you read? If so, did you read the whole post? I said "based on reports from my clients, a site like this makes around $2K/mo".

There is no traffic being fed to the site currently and there hasn't been any for a while. Of course, if you wish to buy it and start feeding it, then you'd be the one deciding on the amount of money to spend on that.

Obviously, alexa is grossly inaccurate. However, in this case it is confirming something that is already quite obvious: the site (still) needs feeder traffic to stay at it's current traffic level.

There's nothing wrong with raising sites on feeder traffic, getting them somewhat stable and then selling them, but in this case it really looks like all traffic could be gone in a day or two

Plus, if he created this site with the specific intent of selling it, it's kinda odd that he doesn't know what the site makes, and has set up the site in a way that it couldn't even be known.
Remember that Alexa graphs _rank_, not _traffic levels_

As you drop further in rank your site will shuffle around in rank more, since the number of sites with similar traffic to yours increases significantly.

Also, he said he's selling it for a friend. I would be in the same boat if I was selling a site - I run more than one, there is no accurate way to prove which sites the signups are coming from.

No, I'm not guaranteeing it. For all I know, the buyer will do his utmost to run it into the ground, how could I, or the owner, guarantee such a thing? But as long as the buyer doesn't try too hard to fuck it up, or anything uncontrollable happens, like a server crash, the traffic should stay thereabout.

Alexa is not a reliable source to gauge traffic levels.

I've been lazy with my TGPs lately, traffic has fallen but I still make more than $2k a month from them. Some days I don't even load the trading script at all. The whole setup is about 95% automated.

TGP traffic is of much lower quality, definitely... but considering the amount of work I have to put into making the $ I'm not complaining.

(newbie warning: don't expect you can do this from day 1 )

Nah, don't say that. Let them give it a go, buy the scripts, buy design, buy traffic. Then, when the feeder's gone and they're left with a 2K site, they'll hire me to grow it to 100K and wish they had done that from the very beginning. Not to mention that they'll have a lot more appreciation for my services, knowing that it's not actually such a piece of cake.

This coming from the guy who can't even spell correctly.

BOO FUCKING HOO! Do you think for a second that a serious buyer would back out, just because I chose to flame someone who was doing nothing but stirring shit, in a thread where he had nothing to do to begin with? BUSINESSMEN do BUSINESS. Now swallow your pride and make a bid, you know it's a damn good deal!

Then, when the feeder's gone and they're left with a 2K site, they'll hire me to grow it to 100K and wish they had done that from the very beginning. Not to mention that they'll have a lot more appreciation for my services, knowing that it's not actually such a piece of cake.
That's why it's so silly when people start posting "$x for trade script, $y for thumb script, $z for traffic" type analysis into a for sale thread.

Hey, did you know it works out much cheaper if I buy the materials and build my house myself? My builder must be ripping me off!

And here's a final thought for the thread:

The start of a site is the most labour-intensive period, and it's also the period which requires the most investments (scripts, feeder traffic).

Now, this site took ~2 months to build up. According to DamageX, it will take another ~2 months to make what they're selling it for. Why sell it then??
From a business point of view, that doesn't make any sense (unless maybe you're broke and need to make rent).
Also, since income mainly comes from sponsor hosted galleries, it's not really a matter of having skills to convert... it's more a matter of basic math.

I'm done with this. Ask the buyer to bump this thread with the results in two months, and if he's totally satisfied I'll gladly admit I was wrong

I'm not gonna list the reasons the owner has for selling, because I don't know them, so I won't speculate.

I will, however, list the reasons why I build sites for others, instead of building them for myself, as I get the same question a lot.

For me, there are two reasons. First off, I get easily bored and I need to change projects often, otherwise I just run them into the ground. Second, compare the building for others versus building for yourself with promoting a per signup sponsor versus promoting a revshare one. With the per signup you get a nice chunk of cash up-front and nothing thereafter, while with the revshare one you get less up-front but you get to pocket the recurring. So in this case, it's all about the fast cash. I choose the money up-front and let my clients pocket the recurring, I'm happy, they're happy.

Trading scripts seem like a great way to get it started. I'm glad there are a few names of em in here

Seems extremely hard to put a price on this though. I could make a site and setup a shitty computer on my network to access the site 80,000 times a day.

I'm not making accusations, only observations.

Why is it so hard to believe that a site can be grown 0-100k that fast? Cause you cant manage to break 10k?

punkworld, you are a genius, comparing a new site to BUNNYTEENS, one of the top 3 thumb sites that has been around forever and probably has over 100k of jus bookmarks. Maybe pull up madthumbs alexa and compare that too. Real smart.

DamageX makes good sites and does it fast.

Try any other large site and you'll probably see a similar effect. (eg bunnyteens went +100% then -50% in a few days... do you really think his traffic doubled in that time?)

On the other hand, hiring a professional to do it might actually cost you less, if you put a price tag on the time you'd need to build it yourself.

Ask him if he'd sell a 100K site for $2750, he'd jump ten feet high. It's simple, he actually knows the value of the site and posts a low price to scare off buyers, so he can buy it himself for even less. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

Ask him if he'd sell a 100K site for $2750, he'd jump ten feet high. It's simple, he actually knows the value of the site and posts a low price to scare off buyers, so he can buy it himself for even less. It doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

I am jus saying that $4000+ is too much for a new 100k thumb site. However, I am not saying that the site is a bad one.

If someone cant grow a site this big than they should dish out the cash and buy it. DamageX knows his stuff...
