Personals site says you can be fined $250k for being married?

Have to seen this dating site? They have banner ads that say something like "The only personals site that prosecutes married people!" This is from the front page of their site:

WARNING: Married people need not apply

If you are married and posing as single, be aware that you could be guilty of fraud and subject to civil and criminal penalties under U.S. federal and state law. For each offense, Title 18, Section 1343 of the U.S. Code authorizes fines of up to $250,000 and jail sentences of up to five years. TRUE reserves the right to report violators to law enforcement authorities and seek prosecution or civil redress to the fullest extent of the law. If you are married, please close your browser.

      Lying is not illegal.

        LOL, that's kinda funny

They'd get some good publicity if they
        followed through with their threat.

Unless you're under oath, but I doubt any dating site has the official capacity to swear people in.

Besides, what about the swingers, or married types who want a little on the side? Isn't their money green enough? Aren't their dicks hard enough/snatches wet enough?

Sounds like a half baked idea to drum up SOME sort of publicity, any way they can. Better negative pub than none at all for some people I guess.

don't most dating sites make their money from married men 'seeking something new"? (whether that's their target market or not)

I clicked on the banner when I saw the line about prosecuting married people - I guess it worked!

That would be a great way of getting revenge over an enemy. Sign him up, rat him out, let him deal with the hassle...

at IwantU.com, we brag when we marry people.
Since 1997, we had 136 reported marriages and several IwantU babies

I think the website mentioned above is only using this as a marketing technique to shock the members and to make people talk about their site. And they succeeded, because we are talking about them, which means, their marketing is working

                      my 2 cents!

Probably something like fraud on identity or something

The reason they did that is because the other night their was a long special on I think CNN about dating sites and how half the people that use them are married. It made dating sites look kind of bad so I think they are just covering their asses.

FACT: 35% of the ads on a personal site are from married people.
