Have You Ever Worked With/Hired One Of Your Parents?

How did this go? I am just about to hire my mother to work full time on my property management business and we're pretty excited to have her come on board as she has extensive knowledge and experience in real estate and horticulture. She will be working out of a different office than the one we work in at GTS.

Have you ever hired a parent? How has this worked out for you?

Seriously now my mother had a very good business idea lately which she shared it with me. It's a field she knows a lot. Can't say we have partnered yet on this sector or something, but she is coming to my home in a week and we'll try to combine her business interest with my internet experience.

I worked for my father twice, while in the dress making business, and both times a disaster. He would treat me like his little boy even though I could out perform him.

But I used to get my Mum to take our sets up to Hustler a few years back. She was retired and liked the trip up to LA from OC. They still ask after her in the office, "How's that nice lady doing"

I "hired" my Dad a few years ago when he lost his job. Basically just wrote him a check every month for a couple of years until he found other work. He was supposed to submit to SEs for me but I think it bored him and if he did it at all, it was only for an hour or so a day. ;) I owed him for years and years of taking care of me so I never pressed the issue

sounds like a good idea DH as long as you know your mom is a hard worker. you know you can trust her more than anyone else.

I don't see anything wrong with it if both yourself and your mom have no problem with it. Sometimes a parent may see it as odd working for their son's company, but so long as its fine with both of you, go for it. The salary might be a bit hard to figure out though

My mom handles all my books and does my accounting for extra money each month. She was an accountant for 20 years so she is pretty damn good.
I over pay her, but she's my mom, so its worth it.

Both my in-laws lived with us..until my father in law died and now Mom is still with us. Back in the day, they both did jobs for our company...it worked out pretty well....neither one had an extensive knowledge base, but they were glad to file and check stats for us and other little menial tasks....
