                                                                          Anyways, I think twice we've used tobasco and once we used Buckleys for discipline purposes.

                                                                          As for spanking? I think I've spanked both of my children 4 times in their lives, ONCE on their bare asses.

                                                                          As a loving father, I can GUARANTEE you that "I" felt much worse than they did.

                                                                          My biggest pet peeve in the world is people who won't accept responsiblity for their actions. My second biggest would be the idiots that constantly give these people reasons as to WHY it wasn't their fault.

When I was a kid I did something wrong I got hit .I didnt do it again. As Bill Cosby once said Children dont understand discussion they understand pain. In sixth grade I failed a class , my mother asked me about it and I was flippant about it. My mother got a yard stick chased me around the house and hit me with it . I never failed a class again.

                                                                                              I used to be like Ralphie in A Christmas Story. I was a soap conniseur...Ivory was just plain nasty, but Safeguard wasn't so bad after the first couple of minutes. Dove was the best, though, with a piquant bouquet and lively aftertaste.

Jesus... when I was really bad my dad would make me go out in the yard and pick my own switch, i would bawl the whole way... knowing what was coming was worse than the actual act. Mind you i only had it done less times than i can count on my hands but it makes a lasting impression and I would straighten up and fly right.                                                                                                                                                                                                       A firm swat on the ass (cup your hand and it sounds louder than it is) and a timout on the couch will not turn a child into Charles Manson. Just spanking a child isn't the answer either, it has to be coupled with loss of priveliges

My kids have had maybe a handful of spankings. Most of their discipline consists of loss of computer time, loss of television time and the ultimate killer, 5 minutes on the couch with no television or talking (or the 5 minutes starts over).

                                                                                                                                                                                                      I've never used an object on my kids nor have they ever been spanked anywhere other than the ass (with the exception of the occasional "duck and scoot" causing a smack on the back.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      I also don't believe in more than a single swat.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      I didn't go to school to become some fancy "child therapist" or some bullshit. I learned by being a father. I have 3 kids that I can, for the most part, take out in a public place and not have to worry about them being little maniacs (except the goddamned grocery store...what s it about grocery stores that make kids lose their minds?). They understand the words "please" and "thank you" and I even get chastised by them if I don't return a "you're welcome".

                                                                                                                                                                                                      It's not about some threat of violence, rather th discipline of losing out on time to do something they want. The swat (or threat of a swat) is more a reminder that it is accompanied by a timeout or loss of an activity.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      While some of you think that when you have kids you'll just sit around and smoke a bowl with them and they'll be alright citizens, you're in for a huge awakening.

                                                                                                                                                                                                      You'll learn the balance of discipline and rewards. You'll learn about parenting. You'll learn the samurai control it takes to keep your cool when you have 3 kids flopping themselves on the floor crying because you bought Captain Crunch without the goddamned crunch berries instead of with....
