I sooo understand how bad this must suck... My brothers ex wife is going through the exact same thing. She was dating this guy and it was getting quite serious. She's really liking him alot etc and then her mom died. She was really sick too so this had taken a while and the whole family was mentally drained.
He had plane tickets to some weekend trip or something he had bought before he knew this was gonna happen. He got all pissed off and offended that she wouldnt' go. Long story short she stayed with him another 6 months or so and now they are broken up cuz she realizes what an insensitive and selfish person he is.
Life is handing you a clue and a big red flag. This of years in the future when you're together and shit suddenly goes down. There's always gonna be tragedys and issues that will need your immediate attention and her support. Last thing you want is to deal with this time and time again. It really does show a very ugly part of her character even though you do like everything else about her.
