I'd say they design what they think will sell in their market. If that ends up being boxy or bulky or whatever, then so be it. Ford and GM would design a box on wheels if they thought it would sell well. Their goal is to make money, not to make style.

actually, many of the Russian cars are copied from other models. Like the Lada was taken from the Italian model.

In all fairness, American cars are probably the most reliable on the road right now. I drive a German car, and for all the comfort and precision, they still break down quite often. My father has a Pontiac and the damn thing will last 20+ years without any major maintenance.

I'm a fan of having the right tool for the job. If you haul a lot of heavy things with that truck, even if only periodically, then it's absolutely the right choice. If all it hauls is your webbie ass down to the In-N-Out every day, then it's probably not the best choice.

Unless you're the heavy thing it's hauling, in which case I can understand that.

Answer me this though... we have those behoemoths up here too... but almost exclusively they're driven by tiny 5'1" 100lbs chicks with big hair. Chicks so tiny they need a friggen stepladder to get in the cab. WTF do they need a monster like that for?
