Although I generally love Depps performances in films and I also love Burton, this time they did not pull it off. Burton did a fairly good job visually and stuck to the story/book fairly well, he is what pulled this movie off. Depp on the other hand fell short. I commend him for not trying to redo Gene's portrayal, what he came up with was freakish at best and is gender suspect throughout. He started out creepy, stayed creepy, and remained creepy to the end. Nowhere could I really spot what I always saw as Wonka's personality.Comment

I liked it. Did I love it? No. Was it as good as some of Burton's classics from the past, such as Beetlejuice? Not a chance. But it was good.Comment
