During the summer months we have to shock the pool weekly, we're in Memphis and the temps get really hot. Between water evaporation, and rain there's constanly new water going in and with all the activity of folks swimming etc, it's once a week. We leave the pool open all year since we don't have to worry about freezing temps, but nothing other than a few occassional chlorine tabs goes in during that time. We have a 32000 gallon pool, with direct sunlight and no shade, so that's what is required for our pool this time of year.
