Chicago is only about a ~5 hour drive by car to MI. 45 mins by Air, and 5-6ish (?) by train.

Check www.southwest.com for air plane prices. southwest is the Ryan Air of the USA - Only their website has the prices.
Train would be www.amtrak.com

And I can't make it to the Michgan webmasters gathering. My home is S.W. of Detroit... But i'm overseas currently in the UK.

If I am in town then sure. Just bought a big lake home that Im going to use for studio space on Scott Lake in Waterford. 100 ft of private beach. Great new home with tons of party potentional. Docks for boats and jetskis. We can all end the day there if you would like. It would be pretty central to everyone also. Lots of space for people to crash if you need to also.
