I most likely would... I don't say anything in private that I wouldn't say in public. I never try to offend anyone but if it happens and I know about it I apologize. It's simply slang and it's not meant to hurt anyone. You also have to realize that I'm from NY and you hear stuff like that all day.
PS. I'm a black gay man....ask NY_tim he's my girl...

I think the point is what is being said not where. See, I think it's OK to say fag as well as long as the context is the same as my "nigga" usage. If it is used to mean wimp or pushover then it is OK..."come on man, do it, don't be a fag" is fine. It has no overtones of insult to homosexuals. it has come to have a dual meaning over time.
In my nigga statement, it is drawing on our socially acceptable dual usage as a slang term for buddy. "Get your own sandwich, buddy" and "get your own sandwich, nigga" should be the same thing.
Maybe I'm way off here...maybe it's a NY thing. I blame Dave Chapelle!

Originally posted by mardigras If a white guy just has to use the term he should only do it amongst friends who are OK with it. It's pretty rude to be shouting it out in a crowded public place such as an airport where you are almost guaranteed to upset someone.
For those of you who think people shouldn't stop being so sensitive how would you feel if you were sitting in a crowded public place and a couple of gay guys were loudly talking in detail about the last guy they sucked off?
I seriously couldnt give a fuck. I would just be thinking you fucking faggots.

That's ridiculous. Usage of the word Nigga is a term of endearment, not used to label and degrade. It is idiotic to make a comparison like that.
It is clear that whites are starting to use the term because they are in acceptance of the black culture...not the other way around. African americans have successfully taken the one word that was used as a weapon against them and neutralized it. Good for them!

I can't believe you are serious. Ok to use Fag as long as you mean they are a wimp? I know a lot of "fags" that woudl beat crap out of you for that usage. Out of curiousity where do you live? "It has no overtones of insult to homosexuals. it has come to have a dual meaning over time." That is like the most bigoted statement I have ever read.

That changes the whole discussion 100%. The lead post was talking about it being in a crowded airport. If you are amongst friends and only friends you can call them nigga, a cum slurping cu-nt or whatever you want for all I care. It's when you use the rude language around people you don't know that makes the difference.
Suppose I called your house and called you a faggy fuckwad. If we were friends, big deal, we'd both laugh it off. But what if I called your mother and told her I was trying to reach her faggy fuckwad son? That would be cool according to you?

There's no doubt that it is inappropriate language in public. if a black guy said "nigga" or a gay guy said "fag" in front of my kids I'd like it none to much. the question is, is it wrong because the place was inappropriate, or because I'm white...

As long as your friends are OK with you calling them nigga it is only wrong because of the inappropriate place. As I said earlier, around friends and only friends you can say whatever you want to each other. If they complain, then the next time you say it around them it is wrong regardless of your color or the word. It's all about respect, dude

Ok, so now let's say we are in a place where foul language is acceptable. like a bar for instance. People are saying "fuck" this" and "hahahaha" that all over the place...Is it appropriate for me to to say nigga? Is that worse than fuck or hahahaha because I'm white?

Do you know everyone in the bar? If everyone is cool with it maybe, but in a crowded bar where you don't know everyone or how they feel about it I would think it inappropriate, yes partly because you are white, but also because there are many people both black and white who find it offensive and unless you know who's who you're eventually going to get bitchslapped
To elaborate on that, black folks took the power of the word n-i-g-g-e-r from white people who were using it degradingly against them. Most black folks don't use the word nigga.
Homosexuals took the word queer and did similar. When is the last time you heard a heterosexual male use the word queer in a "respectful" way?

He probably wasn't packin a .40 with copper jacketed hollow pts. I take certain liberties with the language, because I can.
With that said, I wouldn't want to offend someone because I am not like that...I slipped in public and probably should have been more careful. But if someone had a problem with it:
1) I would have appologized
2) If that didn't work, I would start buckin niggas.
-Just talkin shit

Not to be a racialist but word has it that those "niggas" pack heat as well...
nig·ger ( P ) Pronunciation Key (ngr)
n. Offensive Slang
Used as a disparaging term for a Black person: ?You can only be destroyed by believing that you really are what the white world calls a hahahahahaha? (James Baldwin).
Used as a disparaging term for a member of any dark-skinned people.
Used as a disparaging term for a member of any socially, economically, or politically deprived group of people: ?Gun owners are the new hahahahahahas... of society? (John Aquilino).
i cant believe the dictionary has this in it - with that said, i think its wrong for anyone to use the term
Still almost a dead heat. I'm very happy with that. I was afraid this country went to hell in a handbasket and everyone would be a bunch of pussies about it.
Congrats to the "yes, it's OK" voter's...you have balls.
