Joke or not, I doubt that David Lee Roth will last long in Howard's old chair.
I enjoyed David Lee Roth with Van Halen in the beginning. He was entertaining and could howl with the best of them.
I saw VH play several times and by the end of his time with the band David Lee Roth was yammering incoherently for like five minutes in between songs.
Nonetheless, when the band became Van Hagar, I was at first disappointed, since Sammy Hagar was never much more than a screamer with more permed hair than charisma. In the end he did his job and the band continued to churn out hits.
Turning back to the solo Diamond Dave - except for a few novelty hits, he never really scored again. The last I heard he was doing the "scoop and run" circuit as a paramedic.
Radio is not easy, especially predominately talk radio. If David Lee Roth can make it, I will be totally surprised. In the meantime I would say that Sirius made a good deal.
If the whole bit today is a sham, kudos to Howard - if it's not, then shame on Dave.
The Stern/Roth show is not on yet on the West Coast, but I'll be sure to tune in when I wake up.
