Might have been bought by someone who had emails.in or something similar in non-plural and wanted to cover every base.

Indians are PISSED because Americans came in and bought all of their domains...

I read a story on it and one of the registrars let it out that most of the domains were bought by American webmasters who also bought domain names for adult websites.

This sale was the highest known so far, which doesn't mean that there haven't been some higher ones which just didn't get out to the public.
