Well im no expert either... I do know the basics and thats one of them. As for whats better: I guess if you are using it for an exit then you will want the thumbs to grab people attention. Im sure you can mix them... I often see thumb tgps that have a group of text links at the bottem. But, thumb tgps are mostly thumbs and can have text links at the bottom or here and there.

The one thing I found out really fast though was that if your thumb quality is low then your production will suck and you will not get many clicks to your galleries. Figure you need at least each of your front page hits to click on at least 2.5 to 4 thumbs to get any decent production out of your tgp. So, if you have 5000 front page uniques a day... you should have at least 12,500 to 15,000 gallery views.
