        Agree! Sadly facism is alive and well in the US currently. If it were elsewhere that shit would be immediate dismissal/suspension and pending legal action - not some PR publicity excercise controlled by the Police Dept.

        Add to this that the US is now a country where citizens have little remaining "rights", a country that operates "concentration camps" (under another guise) and can see justification for holding kids in them from age 12 upwards without trial/legal representation. A country with is actually having a "debate" about the legal rights of it's own citizens to have a day in court. A country that has a law which means anyone carrying $10K on public transport (Amtrak), can have this confiscated without reason. The list is endless....

        Meanwhile we discuss the finer points of stem cell research, watch Kobi Bryant "trials by TV" and debate over same sex marriages... sad shit...

        Yep... facism is breeding nicely. But we are sitting on God's right side - the righteous side - that makes it all "nice :-)

            Based on what I know of the situation, I still stick to my guns. Even a jury is not guaranteed to know the full story.....they have to make their decision based on the evidence as it's presented to them. There are many things that are inadmissable or simply not discovered in a trial, too, but the jurors work with what they know.
            Again, you've had my admission from the beginning that it wasn't a choice I personally would have made, and that I am not aware of the whole circumstances, but, based on the information as it was reported on the news story and what I saw in the video, I don't feel that the police exhausted every non-violent option before resorting to a taser. I, obviously, am not alone if that opinion, just as you aren't alone in yours.
            I have enjoyed sparring with you, even if I did lose my temper at some point, lol, I suppose that's par for the course around here.
            At this point I think it would be wise that we agree to disagree and commend each other on our persistance and dedication to our principles, which, in spite of our little fued, I'm sure are more similar than we know.

                There is one thing that stands out miles about the "handling" of stuff by US folks. I have never seen such a passive nation (in reality) who "accept" what they are told with nothing other than superficial questioning of "why". People seem to just do as they are told - by any asshole who happens to be passing. Often this can have absolutely no logic or reasoning attached.

                This spreads from daily domestic life to as far as Iraq where forces, unlike the majority of other nations forces, are simply not equipped either mentally or otherwise to "relate" to anyone. All the know is how to kill people - I've spoken to some who are "proud" of this "achievement".

                If the amount of official uniforms (from policer officers to whoever) were displayed on a daily basis in other nations as they are in the US - they'd be told to go get fucked. But.. I suppose this is part of a police state that covers it's ass disguised as a "democracy".

                At the same time there are plenty US folks, both "officials" and otherwise, who have a brain in their heads and can manage "scenarios" - I've seen some excellent "handling" of "incidents" in the past there. I suppose it is down to the quality of the individual, as ususal, in the end.

It is not a government that can talk about "democracy" except in propaganda terms.

                                            Any reference to the US as a "police state" is nothing but parroting. Its no such thing and no different than any other time in its history. In fact it's a much better place today than it was in, say, 1950.

                                                Just thinking Colin - Bush reminds me of a manager I had - Bush even looks like him.

                                                This guy was a good manager at a level, tho he had not one original thought in his head :-) But give him the "rule book" and "words" and he will give earache to anyone concerned and indoctrinate them "how it should be done" and "how it is".

                                                I do think Bush as a man is on that level. He is not any kind of "entrepreneur" or "initiator" without prompting from others. His prior track record/business failures also seem to suggest this.

                                                He could also do with some improvement in his ability to speak and get the words in the right order :-)

                                                    Na... don't agree! The US "is" a police state. It is a country overloaded on laws and where there was a policy of creating a "profitable prison system" with prison construction contracts going to "friends". They could not build prisons quick enough and populate them a few years back.

                                                    There are more "law enforcement" pro rata than any western nation. Since several basic "rights" have been removed from citizens - this again is the pattern of a police state.

                                                    When members of the security services visit citizens at home in attempts to persude them not to "protest" and shut up - that again is a police state in action. If that happened in my country - they would be told to fuck off and kicked out the door.

                                                    I actually had one "incident" (not related to the above) with a brain dead "US governement officer" in the past. He "assumed" I was going to do as I was told, or rather he wanted me to do this. He was told to fuck off very bluntly - what he was asking was "not proper". Eventually I got an apology from some who had more sense.

                                                    There are many indicators of "police state" and this is not "parrotting" - it is a fact of life and is well-known. It's all about "control" - I can't think of any western country that has this degree of "control" over their own people.

                                                    Push this scenario a little further and it is getting kinda close to other known police states in history..

                                                            You people are fucking idiots...it was a barricade...a barricade means you need to stop. While they don't say what it was for it could ahve been anything from a tree being down in the road to id check. This guy no matter what kind of stress he was in was being a fucking idiot and trying to rush. He deserved what he got for being a dumb fuck. While I am not saying there are not tons of cases where cops misuse there power this was not one of them.

                                                            Lets look at this in the eyes of a cop who has to think as quick as possible to solve a problem. They guy is going to pass a police barricade...if he is this stupid what is going to make him stop when one of the cops goes after him...for all they know he might have been up to no good for whatever reason or maybe he was high/drunk and thats why he ran the barricade...Now they have some crazy guy driving down the road endangering the lives of innocent people. Shoot the damn fucktard with a taser, he dies its his fault. And yeah the kids saw what happened but the cops didn't put him in that situation he did.

                                                                PS... How do you like to have *every* bit of mail delivered - but after this had been opened by the USPS? For six months this happened to me - they missed one day in that six months when they presumably failed to check the mail.

                                                                There was absolutely nothing of "interest" in this - most of it was of less interest to me than them :-)

                                                                I found out why sometime later - this was a "standard" check on all incoming mail to the US from locations where US citizens "may" have had bank accounts and the USPS acting as a branch of the "intel" services :-) This was prior to any 9/11 stuff.

                                                                Some call that an "invasion of privacy". Tho.. frankly, I did not give a damn - I call it a police state

For some.. hell knows why reason, they had the attention of "intel services" - tho they had no "connections" to anything/anyone that had anything to do with "intell".                                                                                             The day came when they were departing the US and "intell" advised them that they would be met in their home country by some security officers when they got off the plane. Kind of em :-)

                                                                                            They arrived back home and a couple of their own "intell" officers met them. They had a coffee and a 15 minute chat - there was some "amusement" about "crazy US intelligence" and they all shook hands and went on their way.

After a while it had to be made clear to them that they had "cuffed" one of their own - a "US govt officer"! This was the person I had sent some funds to. I never knew anything about this till after it was over else I'd be on the phone "explaining" exactly what I sent and why and accompanying this with a few "fuck off's".

But this is more than a farce - it's fucking ludicrous! It's not of my biz and I am not asking/telling, but I know that "incident" fucked up some other stuff for that person and screwed up months of inquiries/work.

Nothign is ever perfect, the US is by far perfect but thats what makes life interesting. There are always going to be those that take advantage of power no matter where you live. By far the US is one of the best nations to live in. More opportunity here they alot of other places, even in europe.

The Police had very specific instructions based on the welfare of the community: Don't let anybody into the DISASTER zone - its dangerous. Someone tried to circumvent those instructions and the police had to put a stop to it. However, Police do not have the luxury of determing who witnesses the enforcement. You can't tell people, "Well I would arresst you, but since so-and-so is here I guess I'll have to let it slide."

How can we tell the police officers to enforce only some instructions? Its not up to that cop to determine wheter he should let the guy go. Our tax dollars pay him to enforce our rules. Collectively we determined its not safe for a human body to go rushing back into a disaster area immediately after a hurrince. So we tell police to stop people from entering those zones and they have to follow that command. We have lots of laws that get people in deep shit, but that doesn't mean the cops were dicks for enforcing them.

                                                                                                                                                                                                    On the other hand, this shows what appears to be a total inabilty of some officer/s to "relate" in a situation and "manage" this. The use of any "weapons" is absurd and too convenient. It is also understandable the "perp" may be "perturbed" - if he commits "public order" offenses, he needs to be arrested. But there is a balanced judgement level somewhere that calls for "a quiet word and explanation that this is for his own good". If that fails - it's a "this is how it is" and he is in line for an arrest. At the end of the day... it's a matter of judgement with the officers on the ground - a lot relies on their judgement. They got a load of shit on their plate - and so have some folks affected by this storm.
