i'm not fan of pigs, actually i hate every single one of them except for this cool guy that let me and my friends go when we were underaged and shitfaced in the back of a pickup truck

what would have happend if they let that guy go by? everyone else would have done the same thing thinking there were no reprocussions, they were just doing their job
a tazer is better than pepper spray or getting smacked up with a nightstick
cops are pussies that fight in groups, but it IS their duty to protect america. they were guarding an unsafe area, and instead of him keeping his cool and keeping his children in the safe zone he decided to test a bunch of cops.
dumb over reacting person v.s. dumb over reacting cop =

what if this guy was in an extreme state of panic or duress? what caused him to act this way? out yourself in this situation.

Well, hey guess what, Florida is in America, and last time I checked you have rights. He had his fucking kids in the car. There is no excuse for assaulting a man in front of his children like that because he didn't want to heed their warning. It's HIS home, and HIS choice to go there or not. PERIOD. It doesn't matter if it's stupid or not...it's stupid to smoke cigarettes because it could kill you, but it's your right to choose. Would I have done that? No way, but I sure as fuck don't think it is appropriate for the police to assault a man in front of his family over it.Originally posted by Colin

I spent weeks on Grand Isle in Lousiaiana during hurricane Juan helping families. Even using a jacked up bigfoot style truck to pull families cars out of 4 foot water for 2+ weeks.
guess what the cops didnt act like this, we were HELPING people.
this is abuse of power simple.
anyone who has dealt or worked as avolunteer in situations like this KNOWS these people are very different when in panic mode. These families have not been home in awhile, they are basically homeless.
until youve been there and had to help old ladies walk through 3-4 feet of water i suggest you just stick to quoting my posts because you dont have experience in a crisis like this, and I DO.
The mayor of Grand Isle and many public officials there are my family and blood, and every time there is a flood or hurricane down there AFTER evacuation we are there to help families.
i laugh at these people with no experience. (like you)

Good point about the stress...you have no idea what you will do in a situation like that until you are in one....
Off topic example, but everybody knows not to touch a gun that has been used to shoot someone, right? Well, in March, my buddy and his girl came home and found another buddy who had been staying with them on the front lawn, apparently from a self-inflicted gunshot. His first thought? "I need to get that gun away from him before he can do it again." So he moved the gun. Caused a big investigation. He knew not to touch it...his girl is a CO, she knew, for sure, but you are not thinking rationally when you are in a situation like that.Need Hosting? Reality Check Network services me purrrfectly!

in America you DO have rights. One of them is the right to an asswhippin' when you start fucking with the cops. No means no. stop means stop. "sir, please take two steps back and calm down" means "look motherfucker, i have a gun on my hip, I am a police officer, this isn't a joke... so back the fuck up and calm down before you get knocked the fuck out"
You actually think the police put up a barricade as some arbitrary and illegal show of force just to oppress people?Comment

and... my only real point is the simple fact that the video does not show what happened and what led up to the event. it just shows the event itself and very poorly at that. it was submitted to a local news station by the same guy who filmed it (who was also doing the shouting) and most likely he only submitted the last couple seconds.... which was then shown out of context, including the way it was characterized "blah blah blah... for trying to go home"
so no one can judge the situation without knowing what the exchange was, what was said and what he did. just because he had 3 kids in the car did not mean he did not say "i am going to kick your ass right now" or "fuck you, i am getting in my car and running you fuckers over" or took a swing at a cop.
people react with a pavlovian type response with an "us against them" mentality and its pretty stupid. if you don't know what happened... you don't know what happened.Last edited by Pleasurepays; 08-18-2004, 09:07 AM.Comment

Everytime one of these threads pop up the hippies start whining about the cops. And once again you can't see shit from that video.
Its pretty simple. Police Barracade- DONT CROSS if you try to cross and act aggressively the police will take appropriate action. There is no way of telling whether or not that guy was reaching for his pockets or what. The crowd was starting to get fired up and if he didn't comply they were to follow protocol and do what is neccessary.
Worried about the kids in the car seeing it. Don't try to break the law and go against a LEO in front of your kids like a fucking idiot. Its his fault. What a good thing to teach your kids. Ignore the police and have no respect for the law.
There job is hard enough without some stupid mother fucker with kids in the car wanting to go past a barracade into a dangerous area. If the cops let them through and something happened to those kids the news would feast on that as well.Living in Virtual Reality

you are assuming and you are reacting in a deeply emotional way, when you only have less than 1/2 the story.
that being said.. "kids in the car" has nothing to do with it. you are assuming the police did not have good cause to take him down.... but you have no idea. it's not like this guy was just walking by and a cop was drunk and decided to whack him in the head with his nightstick for no reason. there was a confrontation... the details of which, we do not know.Last edited by Pleasurepays; 08-18-2004, 09:22 AM.Comment

God damn, let me spell it out for ya, since the first few times didn't sink in...
I admit, AGAIN, that I don't know the whole story.
But what I saw was a scared man with a family who probably just wanted to know if he had a home anymore or not get assaulted in front of his kids by authorities. Think about how terrified these kids must have been to go through a hurricane of that magnitude, and to know they may not have a home anymore. Imagine how much more compounded that would be when they saw their dad get stun-gunned. That was my point to begin with.
If you saw something different, well, that's YOU, and I have no problem with that.
I don't attack people for having different opinions than I do, I know that those differences of thinking are what make us all unique and interesting.
If you think something else, good for you. What we think doesn't impact this situation in any way whatsoever, so it is a personal opinion owing nothing to anybody. Mine is different. So friggin what? You are not going to change my opinion by arguing with me. I don't have to defend my opinion to you, or anybody else, but I was respectful enough to respond to your questions and explain my POV. Now why not have enough respect for me to let me have my opinion and stop trying to change it.
With regards to it being a very small part...I wasn't the one who said "It's not that you don't know the whole story .. In fact, you don't know any of it other than the way it ended."
I was merely pointing out a factual error in that statement.

You know how the story ended. You don't know any other part of the story.
In English, this can be expressed as "You don't know any of the story OTHER THAN the way it ended".
You may replace "other than" with except, if it makes it easier for you..Comment

The police are there to prevent looting. They check to make sure everyone entering a disaster area has a legit reason to be there. If they guy had ID, he probably would have been let into the area but instead he probably got an attitude with the police. It's not like the guy was shot with a shotgun. It's a taser. He probably peed a little and was handcuffed. No big deal.I like pie.Comment

In front of his kids, for Christ's sake? And because he was trying to get past a barrier, TO GO HOME? Hello? Who is hell are the police to tell anyone they can't go home? The storm had already passed!
Oh, I would have those cops' asses in a sling for that shit.
It's a shitty thing and it would piss me off as well if it was my house, but if the cops can't control the area or if it's still dangerous they are in the right to keep people out. It sucks but that's what has to be done.
However the tazer in front of his kids was pretty bad and I think it shouldn't have been done.. The guy didn't seem to be violent but who know we didn't see everything. In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.Comment
