The story got attention because they were seven of our own most of all, I will play devil's advocate and say we do not know the race of these children BUT one can assume that the adoptive parents were white and that the number of white adoptive parents who adopt non white children is much lower than those who do adopt only white kids. There are probably orphans from other areas of Africa there under simular situations but the thing is America think that all areas of Africa are like that so the thought of them suffering is common and not going to raise an eyebrow amongst the masses here. Yes there will be many who do not care about the differances and feel terrible about it but for the most part it is all about our own and how they should not be in the same position as those other kids. I guess we can just say at least 7 are saved, what are the missionaries doing about the rest of the kids though?even ADULTS need TOYS

The children were black. Don't take your attention deficit disorders out on people who actually read the whole of the article.
The article stated that an official had to accidentally recognize the ACCENTS of the kids before they knew something was up. This pretty much gives it away. If the kids were White then the Nigerian government would have tried to find out where they were from at the moment they got their hands on them. But since they were Black, they blended in and were put in an orphanage.Comment

I have to agree with Fletch here. I am myself a Nigerian citizen that has been living in the United States for a while now. I understand that it is sad for these children mother to just left them in a country where they have no clue how to do things, but it is not as big of a deal to receive that much media attention. There are things 100 times worse happening all around the world, and there is no interest towards it at all. It is not only the Media that PICKS what it wants to make public or take interest in, but the COUNTRY. DON'T get me wrong, i am very happy to be in this country, as it has many more opportunities than Nigeria does, but if the US is going to patrol what goes on in the world, then do it fulltime. They should not just PICK and CHOOSE by what they can get back in return. There is a major Tribal War that has been going on in Africa for decades now, and the US has not even stepped in once and said, "Hey, what is going on here?"
NOW if that land had some kind of valuable natural resources, the US would be all over the case. This not right, if you will pick and choose, then do not start as the police in the first place, the media is guilty of the same crime as well.

yes but the problem is that for some reason people don't appear to know that caring doesn't always mean invading blowing up half a country.
Heck, my neighbors are Nigerian...there are very strong connections between the UK and Nigeria and a as such London tends to be the first stop on the imigration ladder. I care about the kids of my neighbor's cousins, etc too. It doesn't mean I don't care about those seven kids.
