    I'm Whipped by a 5 Year Old!

When my son and ex wife are watching TV together and he sees a commercial advertising something he wants he doesn't even bother asking her for it. He simply says:

"Oh, my daddy will get that for me".

He knows me well. He's a great kid and deserves to be spoiled.

Today we went to a furniture store store to buy him a new dresser. While my ex-wife and her sister and sister's fiance were deciding on the color of the dresser (I was brought along only to pay) my son found a cute rocking chair. He climbed up on my lap (I was sitting on a nearby bed) and got those big blue eyes all open up as wide as they'd go and said in his sweetest "I know daddy will melt" voice:

"Daddy, can I please have that chair. Please, Daddy?"

What's a dad to do? How could I resist?

I have heard people toss around the term "kidwhipped" before.

          Spend you some brain.

Agreed. I recently talked my ex-wife into paying him an allowance for things like doing the dishes, feeding the cat and taking out the garbage. He's not too young to start learning a decent work ethic (granted, I slip some cash into the piggy bank where he stores his allowance when he's not around).

Last Thursday he wanted an egg beater of all things. Yes, a real egg beater. It was $14. His mother told him that if he wanted it he'd have to buy it himself. So he spent his money on an egg beater. He's so proud of spending his own money on that. He takes it with him everywhere. Even today he had it with him.

Every parent dreams of being able to give their children what they need and then some. You should feel good knowing that you're able to. But as mentioned, it is very important that your little guy knows that money doesn't grow on trees and does take work. Good call!

If you only knew this kid...

He's never once thrown a fit in his entire life. Ever. He's really a great, perfect kid. Seriously. I always give my ex-wife credit for being such a great mom. But she says it's not her either. He was just a good egg I guess.

SO sweet. Loves everybody. Loved by everybody. In fact, we will be putting him in public school (instead of private as planned) because we worry he's too "sheltered". I sure hope we're making the right decision.

When I was a kid my mum set up a star system. There were about 20 different jobs around the house that had a different amount of star rewarded to you if you did them. My mum would then swap the stars for cash if we wanted something. If I wanted a star wars figure that was 2 stars which would usually be doing the washing up for a week.

Well, he's just a kid and I guess he needs those things anyway. Just pray sure he won't be saying this next time "I know my sweet Daddy will buy me that ferrari." ;)

My theory is that kids who grow up with a lot have a better chance at success in life than the kid whose parents held back.

I think that's one of the reasons why kids from wealthy families go on to reach a higher level of self made wealth.

A kid who has all the latest toys, goes on nice vacations, etc... is going to want that to continue into adulthood. Whereas the "deprived" kid can't miss what he never had.
