I had a baby a week before my seventeenth birthday...and guess what...
I graduated with my class.
I went to college.
I never gave custody of my child to anyone else.
I've never had my child removed from my care.
I've never abused or neglected him, or any of my subsequent children, or been accused of such.
My first thought was adoption...abortion isn't an option I could live with.. But I grew up a lot while pregnant, and while I know I have made mistakes, every parent does, and my son is a healthy, fairly well-adjusted 10 year old.
My point is, it's possible to be a decent parent at your age. It's a fuck of a lot harder, but it is possible.

I had my daughter at 20, and realized that it was time to grow up... simple as that.
Where do you live because every state has different laws concerning custudy and child support. As long as you are seen by the court as a fit parent and you can support your child then they will not take your parental rights away. Make sure you get your name put on the birth certificate when the child is born.... that is extremely important if or when you go to court for custody.
You have plenty of time to get your shit straight... just make sure you cut yourself lose from any friends that will be a negative light on you, make sure you get a steady job with a paycheck and keep it, and if you still live at home you really need to get out and show that you can support yourself. The court will look at all of this as factors to custody when the time comes.

You might not stay together with your woman, but you two need to own up and face up. Relationships always have their problems, this child will only compound your issues. Whether you stay together or not - you both have to live for the child.
As for some advice for custody - record any conversations as previously mentioned. Keep a log of EVERYTHING and keep your receipts - diapers food, clothes.
There may be shelters or churches that can help you with baby supplies - a lot of crips and other necessities are constantly being donated.

The girl who I was going to marry was born to a single mother at 18, her mother is now a lawyer who does lots of work for the poor and under privlidged in California (woman is damn near a saint).
I met her in my micro class when I was a pre-med freshmen at a private college. Her daughter entered into college at 16 as a sophomore, the girl is one of the smartest women I know.
Her mother said it was hard but she had to do it for her daughter, she had a responsibility to another human now and she did what she needed to do. Her daughter says that she wishes to thank her mother for all the hard work she did by working really hard herself and making it on her own. She is now in med school and doing well, talk to her everyday and we inspire and push each other.

Prior to that we lived in a crummy appartment, our lives sucked, we thought we'd never have anything to look forward to and we didn't care where our lives went and we were depressed about not having a car or a home of our own while our friends had everything and didn't appreciate it one bit. A rut is what we lived in.

I gave my first child up... the parents were and are still fantastic.. he is 19 now.. but I got letters and pictures and was allowed to send things to him..we have a good open realationship. I still have yet to meet him.. but that is a very possible option when he is ready to confront me or wants to meet me... the father and I are still very close friends and stay in contact over this.
Adoption or abortion is all I have to offer for advice. too many kids being raised by grandparents because the parents skipped out to "live their life"...if the girl says she is not ready..guess what..she is not ready and will resent the hell out of the child..she is the one that is physically going to gestate the fetus.. are you ready to give up your childhood and youth to be a full time dad?..its not easy!!!Comment
