California has become Northern Mexico
While I am part latin, I am fully AMERICAN and what's happening to California is just fucking unacceptable.
We have a rising proportion of the population that doesn't want to speak English, doesn't want to assimilate, and is turning this state into a shithole.
Sure, without migrant labor the price of lettuce will rocket up to $3.50 a lb. But I'd rather pay $3.50 a pound for salad in exchange for piece of mind that my girlfriend won't get assaulted by cholo (lowrider/mexican dirt bags) scum when picking up said lettuce.
The problem arises from America's SHORT-SIGHTED immigration system. The iron law with immigration is that recent immigrants are cheap... however, as they get more skilled, they become more expensive. So instead of REINVESTING in its existing human capital, the USA pulls in more illegals willing to start the bottom and we get this vicious race to the bottom.
Many part of Los Angeles are just fucking cesspools right now. You have Mexican jackasses selling corn and shaved ice on wooden push carts. You have tons of people selling all sorts of shit off freeway offramps.
It gets so bad that the only thing separating Olive street from Tijuana are the absence (for now) of donkey carts.
What is the solution?

I am lucky I live in North Santa Monica but I do see the crap spreading westward every fucking year. The only thing stopping them from completely gobbling all the 'good' areas of LA are the RIDICULOUS rents.
