there is a big difference between classical music you can enjoy and classical music which is not serious enough to distract you from your work. there's no way i would be able to listen to chopin, liszt or skryabin while doing something else - they demand total attention.
with that said, my suggestion would be ravel. if you like impressionist painting, you're going to like ravel's music. mozart and vivaldi are good choices if you want to go a bit older and bach's fugues would work fine as well.
as far as general listening, you haven't lived until you've experienced skryabin, liszt and chopin. tchaikovsky's 1st concerto is one of my all-time favourites as well on a personal level.
