My buddy's (non webmaster) computer was hijacked a few days ago. I tried for two hours to fix the problem and could not get a connection to the internet to uninstall the adware.
Man there are some greedy fucks out there, though not too smart.
What happened was he d/lded some adware that hijacked his homepage, the file was called "secure" and was some hoky warning page with ref links out.
The problem was there was also a dialer that auto loaded when you connected to IE that totally froze up his whole comp and just showed a blank white screen.
When you go in to delete the file called "secure" or the .dll files, all of them just show right back up after deletion.
When you go to remove the program called "shopper assistant" it needs to actually connect to the net to get the uninstall info.
What this means is that he cannot surf the internet to even go to the spyware removal site advertised in the "warning", nor can the computer hook up to the dialer in question, so essentially, the wm who did all this bullshit fucked his surfer out of $60 for some computer expert to come to his house tomorrow, but also fucked himself out of money by not allowing the surfer to even connect to the internet.
It's no wonder it's getting harder to make money in this biz when all anyone is doing is kicking people off the fucking internet.
