From what I know all registars get domains on a first come first serve basis. If xxxregistry gets a domain then the person who preordered it from their site gets that name, otherwise, they get refunded. However, I ponder there will be hundreds of registrars selling and competing for .xxx domain names when they are become available. I guess there is nothing to lose by preregistering a name with them, just don't get your panties in a bundle.

        Correct me if I'm wrong.

Still, they're charging the registration fee before acquiring the domain name, months down the road?

An good estimate of what the registration fee was released to the public a while ago. I ponder that they are basing their prices off of that.

yah -- that sux -- i pre-ordered a couple from this place -- dotXXXregistry.com -- and paid just the pre-reg fee -- here, i don't have to pay the registration fee unless they secure the domain for me upon opening of the registry --

                From their FAQ:
Q: How much does it cost to pre-register a .XXX domain name through dotXXXRegisty.com?

A: Unlike past models where our competition has auctioned off registration rights for specific valued domain names to the highest bidder, dotXXXRegistry.com is offering a fair flat-rate system. The cost to utilize our pre-registration service is a non-refundable $17.95 USD, and will entitle the pre-registrant to exclusive ownership of the pre-registration title for the specified domain name. This means each domain name can only be pre-registered with dotXXXRegistry.com once.
Q: How much will the registration fee be to register a .XXX domain name?

A: The unofficial wholesale rate to accredited registrars is $60 USD per .XXX domain name, set by the .XXX Registry. This fee is only charged to a credit card upon a successful pre-registration, when the registry launches. Although other registrars may much charge more, this rate is expected to be under $80 USD from dotXXXRegistry.com.

The following domain: sex.xxx is available for pre-registration. well i guess its not the best idea to trust the pre registration system... go for the real time ...

if they reg a top xxx domain for you... they will keep it and send you a "Sorry, didn't get that domain you wanted" letter and they'll gladly refund your $5.
