I enjoy some of the new psychedelic music, but I find much of it too monotonous.

The first wave of psychedelic music (circa 60's and 70's) had a lot more going for it musically, and the variety in the music was greater.

For those of you who weren't around, check out some of these early psychedelic bands (in no particular order):

Vanilla Fudge
Strawberry Alarm Clock
Electric Prunes
13th Floor Elevators
Blue Cheer
Blues Magoos
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention
Captain Beefheart
Crazy World of Arthur Brown
Iron Butterfly
Spirit
Quicksilver Messenger Service
Greatful Dead
early-Pink Floyd
Curved Air
King Crimson
Velvet Underground

Plus there were several rock bands that also did some psychedelic music:

Jefferson Airplane
Janis Joplin
Jimi Hendrix
Cream
Yardbirds
Byrds
Doors

Even the Rolling Stones and the Beatles did some psychedelic stuff.

Musicians from other genres contributed as well...Miles Davis, and John McLaughlin (Mahavishnu Orchestra) come to mind.

There are many bands I am missing. Feel free to add to the list.
