I rarely lock my doors to the house, and often have no worries about leaving the car door unlocked. The only time that policy has ever been an issue is when I was living on Hastings in vancouver, but then you're a damn fool if you leave anything around that isn't nailed down, locked up, or chained to a post when you're around the densest junkie-per-capita area on the planet.
Moore may have taken a lot of liberties on a lot of things, but the locked door thing is straight up true for most people I've known and most places I've lived, and I've literally lived from one end of Canada to the other.
