I was working for IBM at the time -- early 1998 -- on the Java software marketing team. IBM was holding its annual briefing for the Latin American press in Venezuela that year -- Lima was cancelled as the original location, for reasons of political instability.
I was the only person on the team who speaks Spanish, so I got to go --
-- I remember the location was a resort on the coast about 45 minutes by small plane from Caracas -- but can't remember the name...
