          A diamond is a rock, nothing more. So no, it's definitely not the "best" present, but yes they are pretty.

                  If its wasnt for the monopoly that debeers has then no one would care about diamonds because they would be cheap. debeers owns about 90% of all productive minds. They control how many diamonds they release to the public.

                                      ahah so true. Debeers gets an A+ in marketing. I am sure the gov of Holland doesn't mind.

                                      What I don't understand is from what I hear, diamonds cannot be sold unless from DeBeer's, so how do they not own 100%? Or does that rule only apply in the west?

                                                          DeBeers only has 2/3 of the market in number of diamonds and 45% in value, not 90%... Where you get your facts from?!

                                                          They are the biggest single company though I think.
