lol -- i love "thanks in advance" -- wtf -- !
this means: 1. am absolving myself of having to thank you later, when it will be more trouble to remember, and 2. it is a passive-aggressive method that makes the "granter" of the favor feel GUILTY if they don't do it -- because they have been "thanked in advance" --
this can only have happened because we came to view the offer of "thanks" not as an etiquette appropriate only to certain circmstances (like when someone has actually given you something or done somethign for you), but as a transaction, as an exchange of value for value -- and once you go down that path, there's no reason why thanks shouldn't be PAID in advance, or deposited in the Thank You Bank for withdrawal when needed --
