I wouldn't be surprised if content producers start requiring their content to be served only with DRM. Not too soon, but it might very well happen, except exclusive content of course since you buy full rights.

I heard they're even gonna come up with a DRM solution for pictures.

Here's the #1 reason for DRM.

We got a complaint from a surfer last week. He could watch all the videos no problem. He was upset because he burned them all to CDs and gave them to his friends. And they didn't work for his friends. So he was complaining that his friends couldn't watch. We told him, gee imagine that, I guess it's WORKING. It's the only complaint we've gotten, because everyone else realizes what a supid position that is.

We make great porn. But you have to pay to see it.

Battus, you run members areas? Do you run anti-password sharing protection? Why? Protection of intellecual property is a fundamental goal of any content developer.

Do a search on and P2P for "Amateur Pages". If surfers wouldn't put all of our content on Kazaa, we wouldn't have to protect it. But because their are thieves out there, we have to lock our doors.

No you're right. I guess mainstream movie sites are using DRM because they are stupid not to let surfers download all their DVDs or $5 and then cancell. Boy are they losing out on the gravy train!

I think if it became known that the best porn was protected by DRM surfer opinions would adapt. TGP wasn't born in a day.

To the ones who say DRM will fail, think about this; the government is so keen on DMR that it would easily fit into a scheme to age protect content, with the responsibility of making sure licenses fell into old enough hands falling on the person making the content available, of course.

wea re already using it, and its great, the surfers dont know either way. if they've got the new windows media player, they dont even know its there. it doesnt spy, doesnt send data to anyone and protects the content. thats it. we have experienced no chargebacks because of drm. at worst, we've gotten a few questions from people that dont understand why the movies wont play. as soon as we tell them to install the new windows media player, they are happy.

When all paysites are using DRM( because it makes sense ) then Joe Freeloader won't have much choice but to fork over that monthly membership.

Also how come a surfer understands when he pays $8 for a PPV movie from the Spice channel he gets to see that movie ONCE. How come this same surfer understands when he rents a porno at the video store he has to bring it back the next day. But yet some the concept of not being able to see content after his membership to a porn site expires is beyond his grasp?

By the way if he tried to chargeback, well I assume this same technology can tell which computer downloaded what content so I wonder how Visa will look at a guy trying to get his $3.95 back after it's been proven he's downloaded 50 gigs of porn?

I will say that a good solution would be for that website to offer the surfer to keep that movie forever for a fee even after his membership expires. Kind of like buying a DVD after you've rented it.
Nailed it. Every point. This is what I would have posted, had I gotten here earlier.

To you nay-sayers.... Adult videos in rental shops DO have anti-duplication in place. Try running two VCR's to copy a rental porno and see what happens. Paysite content should be no different. Tough shit if "it's always been that way".... tough fucking shit I say. Technology changes, there were no anti-duplication procedures available to porno producers back in the 70's but there is now, and they made out just fine. I'm sure the online industry will do the same.

When you buy a membership to a site you buy access to that site...you're not buying all the content, you're buying access to it...when your membership expires so does your access to the content. DRM has brought things to where they should be.

When your gym memberships expires do you have a right to go snag a stairmaster and get a lil running in from home? NO.

There are so many things that are going to be made possible because of drm its not funny...in a content based industry you better bet that controlling content is the new order of the day.

What's bad for affiliates is free trials (and the deception that follows similar business models), allowing surfers to rip as much as possible without true monetary value for the program owner. You make a quick buck initially but the value of that surfer goes to shit.

                                  a. He has the content he wanted without having to truly pay for it.

                                  b. Now all of his friends (and possibly most of the web) do too. So now the site you've been promoting has also lost value, the content it contains is readily available for free.

                                  c. Now your favorite program that's been paying you on these free trials has to do many many things to make their overhead. (cross sales, spam, steal the back button, force them into pop up hell, install toolbars, etc.)

                                  d. These tactics make a surfer gun shy, get your sponsors banned on tgp's etc, and detriment the already poor public perception of adult webmasters alike.

                                  e. Do you think most of these programs WANT TO shave you? Most of them simply aren't bright enough to build a business model that is self sustained by conventional means. So they HAVE to shave you to make money. Ok, well maybe some of them WANT to shave you...but I still believe they are the anomaly not the norm.

I'm a firm believer that the current state of the industry is not conducive to growth...because the supply is overpowering the demand. Additionally, more and more webmasters are wandering into our ranks and stealing small chunks of market share. So before you know it, being an adult webmaster is going to be just as profitable as being a construction worker. When was the last time you swung a hammer, dug a ditch, poured concrete.

So the solution becomes to pinch off the supply and let the market correct itself...the beautiful thing about porn is that it gets old...and the demand for fresh new fuck flicks is self perpetuating.

So if you're smart you'll carry the banner of drm and realize that by protecting our content we protect our jobs...
