there is no doubt the pope helped do some good.

But the ancient beliefs of the pope and the catholic church on birth control have helped to bring about the plague of AIDS in Africa. Many of the people that have AIDS in africa are poor. Not poor like you and I think of it but abject poverty. They are people with zero education and most of them have, nor ever will have, traveled more than a few miles from where they are born. But along come the christians to help them and educate them and help them find god and they tell them that if they use a condom that is a sin and sins will make you go to hell. But these people are, in the end, human - just like all of us. so they have sex, they just do it unprotected which leads to many children being born to parents that do not have the means to care for them. It also lead to the rampant spread of AIDS. And the pope? He's sitting in his room in a building that many of the worlds richest people would find extravagent, he's eating food cooked by world class chefs and brought to him by a gaggle of helpers. He's sleeping in a nice bed and pretty much has anything in the world at his disposal.


If the pope would have spent any amount of time in Africa, sleeping on the ground, eating MRE's and helping care for the many children and the many that are sick and dying from the direct effects of his teachings I would have a little more respect for him.

Let us also not forget that in the 1940's the pope ( long before he was the pope or even a member of the church ) worked as a salesman for a chemical company. He sold Cyanide gas to the nazis that was used in thier camps on jews and prisoners. here's his story : In the early 1940's, the I.G. Farben Chemical Company employed a Polish salesman named Karol Wojtyla ( the pope's name before he was the pope ) who sold cyanide to the Nazis for use in Auschwitz. The same salesman also worked as a chemist in the manufacture of the poison gas. This same cyanide gas along with Zyklon B and malathion was used to exterminate millions of Jews and other groups. Their bodies were then burned to ashes in the ovens. After the war the salesman, fearing for his life, joined the Catholic Church and was ordained a priest in 1946. The salesman was ordained Poland's youngest bishop in 1958. After a 30 day reign his predecessor was assassinated and our ex-cyanide gas salesman assumed the papacy as Pope John Paul II

I am also non religious.... and well, I definitely respected the Pope very much and considered him one of the greatest man of the 20th century for sure..... and one of the greatest in the 1000+ years history of Poland.

When the previous Pope died after 31 days in office, he was not even considered by many to be the next Pope - Therefore, what reason would he have to kill a Pope he didn't consider his predesessor?

no I'm not blaming it on him. I'm saying that that the catholic church and it's practices, missionaries, teachers, etc. in africa are telling very poor, non-educated people in africa that condoms are bad. because of this condoms are also hard to find so the spread of AIDS is being made worse than it should be. I'm not saying they created AIDS, I'm just saying a lot of the blame for the rampid spread of aids in africa can be directly attributed to the catholic churches influence there.

I read about his former jobs in an article in a new zealand newspaper several years ago. I had seen some other stuff about it since then. of course the church denies it and, from what I understand, there are employment records showing that he worked for thiese two companies. There have also been some books written with this info in it.

Also, If you read my post, I never said that he killed the previous pope or had anything to do with the previous pope's death. I simply said that when the previous pope died after only 30 days in office, this guy took over. You are correct, he was not even considered by most to be a predecessor, his appointment was a surprise because he was pretty young, and not an italian.

I want to reply to your post and clarify my previous posts. The pope has done a lot of good things for the world, from what I understand especially the people ot poland and eastern europe. I'm sure the list of things he has done that are good could fill pages. My point is that he, like all of us, was just a man and with that comes the shortfallings of being human. He said some things that are pretty hurtful to many, for example how he said that gay marrige is "a new ideology of evil" I'm sorry, but to me calling someone evil just because they love another person is a pretty screwed up thing.

again, though, I'm not trying bash, nor praise the pope. He was a guy, just a guy, that was put into a position of power. He did some good, he did some bad. In the end he has not effected my life ( that I know of ) It just makes me sad when I see any person of power refuse to accept reality and the results of this refusal are people getting needlessly hurt.
