Quebec/Mtl baseball fans...

... do you now cheer for the Washington Nationals as if they are still the Expos?

Couldn't help but notice that they just won their 10th game straight :D

It must suck sort of, to see them now doing so well when they're no longer "yours" eh?

I can relate, having lost our Jets to Phoenix many years ago, and there are STILL fans in winnipeg who to this day, something like 15 years later, still think of them as our team.

I saw two Expos games at Jerry Park back in '76, hard to imagine them no longer part of Montreal.

wasn't the greatest fan
but i'd go watch them 3-4 a month

nah... Expos often have a very strong season start.. They are often in first place and winning 10 in a row is not that unusual... But every fucking years.. they underperform at the end and teams like the Braves, Phillies or Marlins pull thru at the end... I can guarantee you they wont make the playoff this year..

What really sucks is when your city's team moves to another city and then they win the trophy. They won fuck all when they were in YOUR city, but now that they're gone then they score the cup.

Quebec Nordiques ----> Colorado Avalanche won the cup in 1996 & 2001

I coulnt care less about baseball, and so does everyone I know...that's probably why no one was going to see the expos..because they figured out baseball sucks....not because they couldn't afford the 5$ tickets moron...

It sucks to lose a pro team like that, however it was inevitable.
The powers that be refused to erect a proper stadium for a team of that calibre. The effort to keep them here just didn't materialize. I am not losing any sleep over it. And although I do like to watch baseball, it's simply a purely American sport. Most people outside the US and Carribean don't give a damn about baseball.

Montreal is and will always be... a hockey city.

What was the consensus on the Olympic Stadium as far as the Expos playing there? The two games I attended in '76 were at Jerry Park, which I am glad about that I at least got to see the old park before the team moved.

Was the Olympic Stadium not suitable? I forget now, can't recall what the talk was about it. I was IN the Olympic stadium in '76 watching the track & field events, and remember thinking that the stadium itself was pretty damned cool. Why was it not good for the Expos?

I went to a lot of games every year, I mean, you could go 10 minutes late and pickup tickets for 5-10 bucks that you could sit anywhere in the big O with. The location of the BIG O wasn't the best, very poor part of town, but it did have metro access. Look, Montreal didn't have the lobby groups necessary to get government involved. Our mayors didn't do enough, the fans didn't, not enough interest from local businesses, MLB fucking us a bunch of times...etc.. The Big O was fine, but it just wasn't bringing in much revenue, the suites/boxes were really old and just no media/press coverage the last couple of years. Think the folks here are more interested in soccer or F1, or mini putt (no joke).
