I would say that his speed was his main asset. He had the hand speed of a lightweight, yet the power of a normal heavy. That made for a lethal combo. Of course, speed is the first thing that leaves you as you get older; just look at Ali who was basically shot at 34. As for Tyson's defense being his main asset, I've never heard that one before.
