No, you wouldn't be able to write a novel. You would be assigned to the garbage collection company, where you would be a garbage man for the rest of your life. If you did well, you might be promoted to middle management - You would live in government assigned housing (a small apartment).

And please, I remember Romania as a kid, bitches at the counter was exactly a product of communism, as nobody really cared about the economy as a whole, let alone their jobs which were virtually guaranteed.
