10% client loss, I wouldn't stretch it as far as saying that. If they had some intelligent marketers on board, they could easily make the profit back by offering augmented services to the client base they have left.Originally posted by BukkakeBrownowned....Whitehat is for chumps

That is a considerable drop. Perhaps people are finaly realizing the service is far from impressive.Living in Virtual Reality

Great....I hope they all burn in hell...I signed up for a free trial with them, canceled and then was billed the next month....I call them and they have record of me calling 5 days before my account was going to bill but they told me that I didn't cancel my account when I called them or else it would not have billed. Fuck I got owned..... but im about 60 miles away from thier original building and planning my attack! I was thinking about putting metro stickers on every bumper in the parking lot

10% in just the last year. That is quite substantial in and of itself. According to the latest quarterly TW report, "these declines are expected to continue".

Ummm, AOL and Time Warner merged. Time Warner runs high speed internet. I would think all dial up providers that are established would be suffering due to high speed being so cheap but I'm sure the parent company has picked up more than it's fair share of accounts. :2centsComment

Yeah. That's what the TW in my post above yours refers to.Originally posted by chadglniUmmm, AOL and Time Warner merged. Time Warner runs high speed internet. The competition for dial-up subscribers is fierce with the low cost dial-ups pushing out AOL.
What I find interesting is the loss the AOL brand is experiencing as a subscription service. AOL used to have unique content which appealed to a certain segment of the population. Their plans are to move more of that to be accessed for free on the www.
The AOL brand is also competing with Yahoo and Google for advertising dollars. Tough competition.

AOL got hit hard by cable and phone operators and didn't capitalise on all their martketing opportunities like MSN or lead the way in taking up new technology. Now they'll keep losing market share unless they quickly turn things around and that doesn't seem to be happening.
Their market is newbies, a highly profitable market but not known for their willingness to change, VOIP is going to be a hard sell. They should just switch over all dial-up customers to the broadband packages, send them a modem and properly market their additional services. DSL/cable bandwidth opens up a new world of services; VOIP/IPTV/subscription services/etc.
The AOL unit has some really great assets; mapquest/AIM/aol search but they're losing the battle to google and everyone else. I'm not too keen on the Time Warner assets either, if I held stock in them i'd have dumped it a long time ago.Comment

if my math is somewhat right, thats around $480 mil that they lost in subscriber fees

This apparently happened to many people. They probably would have had even more cancellations if they didn't make it so hard to cancel...an AOL membership is harder to cancel than an Xpics membership circa 1998Comment
